Experience

Hello! My name is Hayley. I'm a college graduate and I have a deep passion for both art and writing. My love of the English language and exploring ideas is endless and I really love helping students put together their essays, research papers, and critical responses. I'm extremely easy to work and get along with, as I've worked as a tutor at KCAI. There, I helped all levels of college students construct better ideas and arguments, started them off with their research, or I just gave them a hand with general editing. I have a keen eye for spelling, grammatical errors, and general writing 'no-no's'. I'm also great at helping to format those pesky citations that your professors and teachers insist on.From time to time I will help my middle-school age cousin with her papers as well, so I'm able to dial it down from college-level. Many of my tests in college were essay or writing based so I'm well versed in what professors look for in successful papers. Examples of my own work are available upon request! The research aspect of papers is extremely interesting and fun to me (I know, it's very odd, don't judge me), and I love to get people started on the right path to finding good, reliable information for their projects. In fact, when I was in middle school I opted out of study hall to work in the library instead. But wait! There's more! Other things I am helpful with are study/memorization skills. I've taken more art history and philosophy tests than one can imagine, and I've had to be extremely creative in creating systems to remember facts, dates, and images. Anything and everything from writing songs, creating anagrams, and using rote memory techniques helped me to pass my tests with flying colors. Some other fun stuff, stay with me: I would also be extremely happy to help you learn drawing and painting techniques or to tutor in art history! I have an art studio in my house and it's always loaded up with art history books, so I'm always learning. I offer early morning outdoor drawing classes (I promise, it's fun! I'll bring coffee!) and indoor still-life drawing sessions. I've taken 4 years of art history, as I went to a specialized college, and in high school I was always enrolled in AP Studio Art. It's a real passion of mine and I'd love to share it. Here are some things to consider (aka a mini resumè for you): -previous Writing Lab tutor for the Kansas City Art Institute (this involved helping students with paper organization, critical thinking, citations, etc) - previous Collections management intern for the Belger Arts Gallery. This required many different things from organization and research to being well informed about the art work in the collection in order to give tours of the gallery. - currently an Administrative and Studio Assistant for a Fine Art Conservator (involves being extremely detail oriented in writing condition reports, sometimes researching artists and works, maintaining quick dictation skills, emailing clients, and having overall excellent communication skills, et cetera.) I am open to teaching students of all ages and skills levels if my experience and your needs match up!

Hobbies

I have been a barista for nearly five years now, so I have a great passion for coffee. I'm also an animal lover (fur, feathers, scales...you name it, I'll probably love it and baby-talk to it) and a painter. I get really excited about music and art and about the idea of getting to teach and learn from people! I'm a very friendly, reliable, and caring person who is able to adapt to all types of situations and would really love to explore my passion for tutoring further. I loved being a tutor in college and have really been missing it!
